Self Celebratory Art
The "High Five" has been a subject of debate for years. And by, subject of debate for years, I mean Jerry Seinfeld dedicated an entire episode of Seinfeld to why he wouldn't engage someone in the celebratory practice of high-fivery. The high five is used to celebrate in its best form, on some field of competition, and in its worst, on Oprah. (The Oprah High Five is a terrifying thing. It perverts and voids what a high five truly is)
Our piece today celebrates this act of celebration. The artist asks the viewer to join in the celebration, to "High Five" him if you will. Yet how can one high five the artist when there is no one else around? Are you to high five some random person in the bathroom? Are you to high five the stall itself? This piece is truly thought provoking.
